In early March 2015, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) started construction activities for Phase 3 of the K-7 and I-70 Interchange in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Construction is anticipated to continue through the summer 2017. The remaining portions of the K-7 and I-70 Interchange Project (Phases 4-10) may be constructed when funding becomes available.
Phase 3 involves shifting I-70 to the south and widening it to six lanes between K-7 and 110th Street. KDOT has selected Clarkson Construction to be the contractors for the project with the low bid of $21,204,903.96. Minimal traffic impacts are anticipated during 2015. Impacts to traffic will occur in 2016 when the existing exit ramp to K-7 at Canaan Center Drive will be closed most of the year while westbound I-70 pavement is reconstructed.
KDOT and the City of Bonner Springs are working together with the community to identify strategies that could help manage impacts and improve traffic flow during construction. To date, KDOT’s coordination activities with the City have resulted in:
